I am currently investigating the similarities between Islam and Christianity. This includes a comparison of origins, beliefs, customs and practices.

I plan to help create tolerance through this project by exposing people to the fact that the main thing holding christians and muslims apart is a conflict that happened centuries before, and that the two religions are, fundamentally, quite similar (Hammond). I plan on presenting most of my information in a photostory type format. I originally planned to use Windows Movie Maker for the project, but after I learned that it wasnt compatible with the wiki, downloaded Photo Story. I was less accustomed to this program, so it wont be perfect. Before we begin, a few quick statistics, all courtesy of Comparison Chart: Christianity and Islam:
- Christianity began around 30 AD, whereas Islam began 622 AD
- Christianity began in Palestine, whereas Islam began in the Arabian Peninsula
- Today, Christianity is most common in Europe and the Americas, whereas Islam is most common in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
- There are about 2 billion Christians worldwide, and 1.3 billion Muslims. In the U.S., there are 159 million Christians and 1.1 million Muslims.
- Christians view the Bible as their holy book, whereas Muslims view the Qur'an.

The major points that will be covered in the photostory are (in order):
- both trace a common origin back to Abraham (comparison chart)
- during his lifetime, the prophet Muhammad dealt with countless christians and jews, and respected them as "people of the Book"( comparison chart)
- both religions inherited from Judaisim a monotheistic base (comparison chart).
- both revere and believe in a second coming of Jesus, though Muslims view him as a prophet, not the son of God (Gilchrist)
- both believe in heaven and hell (comparison chart)
- both believe in angels and Satan (comparison chart)
