Congressman Courtney offered a one minute statement on behalf of H.R. 2, the State Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization (SCHIP), more commonly known as HUSKY in Connecticut. The bill was voted on by the House on February 4 after passage the previous week by the Senate. After two vetoes by former-President Bush, the legislation is now headed to President Barack Obama for his signature. The President has affirmed his willingness to sign the bill into law. The program will reduce the number of uninsured children in Connecticut by 43 percent without adding any new spending to the federal budget - the costs are offset by alternative revenue raising measures.
